BACKGROUND
Little is known about the origins or early history of Aella.
Despite seeming a young-ish adult in her early- to mid-20's, she is relatively well-travelled and seems to have at least one or two acquaintances in and all around the Commonwealth - and even some reaching into the DC area.
She is loosely known (and widely regarded clinically insane) to most of her associates these days. Many primarily know her as a travelling repairman who offers her assistance in exchange for shelter, transport or goods.
She has countless surface level contacts, yet only few actually manage (or dare to) get to know her on a more intimate level, with her scatter brained nature, social ineptitude and relentless hyperfixations tending to stand between Aella and her ability to establish close, profound friendships. She draws her sense of value from her perceived usefulness to others; from her ability to contribute with peers and groups she grows to like, and her capabilities at whatever position she has assigned herself to in such a dynamic.
Throughout her time she filled several different 'positions' with such peers, with that of a repairman being merely the most straightforward and based in her personal preferences, but she has also been seen working as armed escort, hunter, guide, salvager, messenger, courier and even infiltrator when need arose. Her scatter-brained surface demeanour and often incoherent and choppy way of communicating often leads people to underestimate her capabilities and intellect.
With an increased amount of environmental distractions, such as bright light, noise, huge gatherings or uncomfortable environments Aella seems to suffer from noticeable brain fog.
Since neither daylight nor noise can be easily muffled, this seems to be most of the time, leading to most people mistaking this for Aella's true nature. However, if she gets to spend extended time in dark, muted, predictable environments, she will slowly break out of her barriers: Gain clarity of thought and perception, more easily remember things, and embrace a more complex, nuanced approach to both, communication as well as self-evaluation.She may drop some random, bizarre personal lore nuggets in this lucid stade, such as her involvement in the outright crazy founding of Goodneighbor, Zeta radiation being real and practically usable, her being hired to have an eye on [her posting partner] but being fuzzy on the details, or her having lived in both Federal Surveillance Center K-21B as well as Kingsport Lighthouse but being forced out of either location and thus becoming a seemingly rootless wanderer…

BACKGROUND
Aella was a child of the first generation being born in Rapture, and was meant to live a stable and safe life in her parents' chosen new home.
However, when her parents died in an unfortunate accident, Aella became an orphan, and with that, pretty much her entire control over her own life ended (or rather... Never happened).
She was handed from one place to another, and eventually ended up being chosen (just as countless other orphans) to become a test subject for something called 'The Gatherer Programme'.
At that time she did not really care or understand what exactly was done with/to her, or that she was a medical experiment. Even more so did the originally grieving child start to feel more and more stable and conveniently numb, as soon as the first waves of plasmids and mental conditioning were tested on her.
Eventually, the person ‘Aella’ became utterly oppressed, and what was left was a delirious, sub-human being with an indomitable thirst for ADAM.Functioning as a Gatherer worked - for a bit, and Aella seemed to have found serenity in what she was doing.
When more and more Gatherers got attacked for their valuables though, many of the children - Aella included - were assigned to a so-called Protector.
Another ambitious mental conditioning project with the goal of creating specially designed Big Daddies as bonded companions to watch over the Gatherers.
Aella and her Protector instantly considered themselves as a family unit, and - regardless their connection having been established artificially - unconditionally loved one another just like any (healthy) biological parent and child would.
They worked together as a content and pretty successful team for several years.
Ironically way longer than most of their fellow Gatherers and Protectors even managed to survive in these troubled times. The older Aella got however, the more of her ability to produce ADAM seemed to fade.
More or less from that moment their daily routine became more and more a thing to be neglected, due being of less and less use.
Aella, being one of the very first and therefore oldest Gatherers was within her puberty now, and the physical abilities that once made her valuable vanished - as well as the mental conditioning that made her see her life and her duty as something friendly and romantic...However, due to the fact that she was still with her Protector, Aella did not mind any of it.
Both of them eventually completely stopped searching for ADAM, and planned to settle down like 'normal' people. (As normal as a Gatherer and a Protector could be, that was.)
Anyway, when both found themselves in a shooting between rivalling gangs, 'what should never happen' occurred: Wrongly considered to be a threat Aella's Protector was attacked and killed by both of the Gangs, leaving behind a traumatised and instantly mentally degrading Aella. As many of the teenage Gatherers who's mental conditioning faded within puberty, Aella suddenly found herself on the edge of slowly encroaching insanity.
Without the mental bond to her Protector to keep her stable, Aella pretty soon started to become aggressive, randomly harming others, self-harming and literally becoming a special sort of new and powerful threat to the people of Rapture. It was these recent behaviour-changes of the teenage Gatherers, that eventually justified the 'Big Sister programme' research.
Once again, Aella found herself as a test subject. And once again, she was not even fully aware of what was happening to her.
With her being one of the very first candidates, the responsible head of the project - a man named Alexander - was not even entirely sure how to find a solution for the so-called Gatherer problem - yet.So eventually to get her and the other first wave of candidates under control, they received a sort of altered, improvised mental conditioning, close to what was originally being used for the first Protectors.
With this, and additional physical alterations, Aella once again found herself as a completely blank mind.As with anything in the experimental stage though, failures were inevitable, and Aella (together with the other six prototype Big Sisters) was one of them.
Losing her entire ability to sense ADAM, as well as appearing to become more and more immune to additional mental alterations, she and her fellow first Sisters proved to be pretty much useless, yet a necessary step towards discovery made in the name of science.
She and the other prototypes - in lack of any other useful order of what to do - were permitted to stay in the laboratories, and some of them even assisted with the creation of the new - by now improved and ready to go into production - type of Big SistersHowever, when the head of the project was assigned to another - rather secret - new task, the Big Sister production was handed over to a new chief, someone who was not aware of Aella and her fellow local sisters being remotely different from the more recent models.
Because of that he ordered to have them sent across Rapture, just as any other Big Sisters by now, to do the job they were supposed to do, regardless of the fact that - technically - Aella had no fix job to do - Yet...

Aella is a slender, somewhat androgynous looking person. She is slightly above average tall, and her build tends to make her look far more sick and frail than she actually is.
It does not help that her entire appearance is noticeably unhealthy: So is she outstandingly pale, has dark shadows around her eyes, her hair is a mostly discoloured ash-blonde, and her eye colour is a sickly, almost even unnaturally looking radioactive green.
She is certainly not what would be considered beautiful in the traditional sense, with many describing her appearance as 'ghostly'.
Her dress sense implies function and comfort over aesthetics. She wears old green military style attire, black combat boots and a CP vest, as well as her signature green beanie.
Her neck and lower arms are usually covered and/or in bandages, and Equipment-wise, her most outstanding features are her bugbait which she wears attached to a necklace, as well her companion/pet Gabby, a repurposed City Scanner which acts as Aella’s eyes and ears, and is covered in plenty of colourful paintings and symbols.
BACKGROUND
Aella is one of the very last children being born shortly after the Seven Hour War and before the installation of the suppression field.
Her original family is not documented, yet the first few years she was taken care of by multiple refugees (later to be known as the first members of the resistance), until their home sector was to be sterilized and Aella ended up in CCA custody.
As one of the ‘last-gen-offsprings’ she was assigned to a labour unit and more or less grew up as a child worker assembling Cremators.
And for a while, Aella was subjectively alright with her role, and even appreciated being around the Cremators, whom she considered her first childhood friends.Eventually though, someone came to relocate her, stating that ‘it was her time to come to the city’. Arriving in said new place - City 18 - though, was not an improvement of her situation - rather the opposite.
Along with many other stray children here, she was captured by Combine scouts, and used for human subject research with the goal of finding the optimal ways to assimilate humans into Combine forces.
She was one of the first attempts at what later would become the OTA.Like many of those prototypes, Aella and her fellow subjects however were considered a failure and to be terminated due to the - at that point - not yet perfect methods of mental conditioning.
Luckily though, one of the associated civil workers felt sympathy for the children, and secretly managed to save four of them.
Equipped with a new citizen ID he sent those children to various surrounding cities.Aella for her part was assigned to a CWU medic in a large city in the east.
Here she began to work as maintenance personnel at the local hospital, taking care of the equipment, machinery and computers.
Due to her previous treatments, Aella by now had grown weary and confused; often not entirely grasping her very situation, past or present.
The conditioning had turned her into an observant and intelligent, yet lethargic drone of a person, who had a noticeably hard time at interacting with other citizens.Machines on the other hand were an entirely different subject. Noticeably easy to understand and interact with, Aella would often prefer tinkering over socialising, and eventually she began to branch out and find company in the only way she (at least back then) understood: She built herself a friend.
Gathered from the parts of destroyed city scanners and manhacks, she assembled her companion “Gabby“.
At first – for her time living in a city – in secrecy of course. The more time went by, and the more she started to become her own person, Aella's curious and innocent personality began to resurface: Soon her will to lean and test her boundaries would win over her lack of social experience, and eventually she found herself trying to get to know not just the people around but also her surroundings at large.
She began to skip on her special water, sneak out of the city’s boundaries more and more often, learn to make her way in the outlands and eventually, she made her first contact with people associated with the resistance. She agreed to work with them as part of the city’s railroad; helping people escape, and slowly but surely she found herself within a wide network of new friends and allies.
This is where she also met Erik Walters, a disenchanted Metrocop intending to turn his life around and actually join the resistance. Both of them quickly became friends and travel companions, and Aella even developed a somewhat protective nature towards him.
To that day they still stick together, trying to make themself useful, in their very own, often strange, goofy but nonetheless working dynamic of contrary personalities.
PERSONALITY
Considering the world around her, as well as her very own life so far, Aella is a surprisingly cheerful and warm personality.
She openly welcomes everyone around, will gladly help if possible, and is a curious nature who - to an extent - managed to keep up an almost childlike innocence.
If teamed up with others, she will usually assume the position of a repairman and/or overall sidekick.
While she is neither focused on, nor outstandingly experienced with combat, she does have her fair share of expertise in other fields.
So does she know her way through the sector without stirring up CCA or Overwatch, and has plenty of acquaintances and allies in most pocket hideouts in the outlands.
Furthermore is she a somewhat skilled enough technician to make use of whatever she finds alongside her way. In short: She is a decent survivalist who can look after herself.
She nevertheless prefers company though, and is on good terms with pretty much any resistance member and refugee in the outlands.
Aella grows fond of others quickly, and even develops a caring and protective side when getting to know someone a little better.
While this can easily be considered one of her greatest strengths, it ironically is her greatest weakness as well:
Her fondness and protective attitude towards her friends make her an easy target for any sort of manipulation…
I do not really have too many complex rules; most are common sense and/or RP mainstream:
Don't be a dick, don't be a bigot, don't use someone else's art without consent, don't guilt-trip people into anything...
RP / CHARACTER
Aella and her associated art are my own creation and I own/play the character for roughly 11 years now. That being said, please ask should you for whatever reason feel like making references to her anywhere. While the character may appear naive and airheaded, she clearly survived the Fallout/Bioshock/Half-Life universe, meaning: You don't need to bubblewrap her. It's fine to be mean or hostile if it makes sense in the context of our story/universe.On that note, expect potential mention of anything you might find in the above mentioned verses, such as violence, blood/gore, substance use, human experimentation, racism, war, death, etc.
I do not endorse any of those, but it is part of those universes.Aella is multi-ship (with chem, of course), with each ship taking place in its own AU. However, keep in mind that the character has been around in her life, meaning your character/s will NOT be her first crush/love/intimate partner or anything the likes. This is non-negotiable.
She is expressly designed as flirt-/intimacy-positive and by default will have multiple loose flings and fwb in all sorts of places unless you and I plot differently.
INTERACTION
I'm sporadically active, depending on work times, RL projects and simple inspiration for writing.
That being said, sometimes I will be around non-stop, churning out replies like I was getting paid, other times I will not be online for days or even weeks.
I ask you to respect my time as I respect yours, and not hound me for interactions or replies.
I will get to things when I get to them.I'm happy to interact with anyone stemming from my character's verse/s as well as compatible others.
I'm generally crossover-friendly with anything science-fiction, post apocalyptic and urban fantasy/mythology, but will be selective on the basis of my own understanding of your universe.Accounts I will not follow by default are RL/private/personal accounts, accounts roleplaying real people, anime characters, (most-) furries, MLP-muses as well as exclusively lewd or hyper/inflation accounts. If I blocked you, you most likely landed on one of the blocklists I happened to be subscribed to.
Alternatively you might be an account posting untagged lewd and showed up on my TL via reposts/quotes.
In either case, this is nothing personal, and merely me curating my online space. Don't worry about it and keep doing what brings you joy!Speaking of curating: I generously mute tags to keep my TL free from things I am not interested in. If I do not respond to anything you meant for me to see, that might be it, so make sure to personally tag me to make sure I see your nudges.I may temporarily(!) mute some moots/associates if they post mass quantities of OOC venting or scopophobia-evoking pictures (model shots, facial closeups etc.).
I will never tell anyone to change what they post, but make sure to curate and streamline my own webfeed instead.
I will always unmute the person the next day if the TL had enough time to fill up with other things.
Should I forget to unmute you for some reason, please tag me to let me know, that was clearly by mistake.Since we can not individually whitelist whom we're comfortable enough with to DM, I disabled my messages altogether. However, if we interacted for a long enough time for me to trust you, I will likely add you on my dedicated DM account sooner or later.I am NOT interested in any off-site RP.
If you repeatedly harass me to DM-RP or to add you on Discord, I will likely block you for the sake of my own sanity.
